Have you ever heard someone describe an experience—like an amazing movie or a spectacular restaurant—and then declare, "You wouldn't believe it unless you see it!"? In this message, we confront our human tendency toward doubt and despair, which often creeps in when we start treating Jesus and our faith as something distant or separate from our daily lives.

Just like when we share a personal story (maybe about finding the "best, most amazing, most spectacular AYCE sushi restaurant" in an unexpected place!), the Apostle John jumps right into his letter with firsthand testimony: "I have seen Him! I have heard Him! I have experienced Him!" John is writing to dispel doubt and provide concrete evidence for the truth we believe.

Join us as we anchor ourselves in this truth, discovering that your faith is founded on truth, established in Christ, and formed through fellowship. Ultimately, this message is a clear invitation to repent and believe in Jesus Christ alone, the "word of life" who was revealed to us, offering the eternal life that serves as our firm foundation.1

Devotion: loving Jesus more than everything else

In Hebrews 12:1–4, we are reminded that the Christian life is a race that requires endurance—but endurance doesn’t come from grit alone; it flows from loving Jesus more than everything else. The writer calls us to lay aside not only sin, but also the “weights” that slow our devotion—good things that can quietly dull our affection for Christ. In a world full of distraction, we are invited to fix our eyes on Jesus, the One who ran before us, finished perfectly, and endured the cross for the joy set before Him. When we grow weary, the answer is not to try harder, but to look longer—considering Christ until our hearts are strengthened again. As we behold Him, our love is rekindled and our endurance renewed. The scarlet cord she ties in her window becomes a vivid symbol of refuge—pointing ahead to the blood of Christ that covers and rescues all who trust in Him. This story reminds us that no one is beyond the reach of God’s redeeming love and that faith often grows by hearing what God has done rather than seeing it firsthand. Rahab’s life is living proof that God delights to save unlikely people and write them into His Story. In Christ, the outsider becomes family, the ashamed become unashamed, and grace does what no human effort ever could.

When life feels out of tune, Psalm 103 strikes the tuning fork of God’s character to bring our hearts back into harmony with His grace. David calls his soul—and ours—to remember and rejoice in the Lord’s personal benefits, covenant mercy, and forgiving love. In a world quick to forget, this psalm teaches us to rehearse the gospel daily: He forgives, heals, redeems, crowns, and satisfies His people. God’s mercy is not abstract—it is personal, proven at the cross, and poured out in Christ. His love stretches higher than the heavens, His forgiveness farther than east is from west, and His compassion deeper than our weakness. As we bless the Lord with all that is within us, our souls are re-tuned to sing again the song of salvation.

Who we worship

We were created to worship—but sin has knocked our hearts off alignment, like a compass that no longer points north. In Psalm 146, we learn that true worship re-calibrates the soul by turning it back to the one true and living God. We worship the Lord because of who He is—faithful, righteous, and eternal—and because of what He does—He keeps His word, lifts the lowly, and reigns forever. This psalm calls us to stop trusting in earthly “princes” that cannot save and to place our hope in the God who never changes. As we see His compassion and power revealed, our hearts are drawn into joyful praise. Jesus Christ fulfills every promise of Psalm 146 as the eternal King who reigns forever. When we know who we worship, our lives and our worship come back into alignment with the glory of God.

Psalm 102: “Complaint of the Afflicted”

Life is filled with seasons when worship feels impossible and words of praise feel hollow. In Psalm 102, we meet a believer who doesn’t hide his pain but brings his honest complaints directly to God. This message reminds us that lament is not a sign of weak faith but of real faith — a faith that turns toward God even in despair. As the psalmist cries out, remembers who God is, and quietly learns to trust again, we see the beauty of a God who hears the broken and remains steadfast through every generation. Through Christ, the unchanging Lord of this Psalm, we find hope that our suffering is not wasted and our cries are never ignored. When everything is not okay, God still invites us to come to Him — honestly, fully, and faithfully.

Be on Guard Against Greed

Christ warns us to “be on your guard against all covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.” -Luke 12:15 The desire for more is almost in the air we breathe. Advertisements entice us to believe that the stuff of this earth is what we need to be satisfied and fulfilled. Yet, scripture time and again directs us to think eternally about money and possessions. This passage lays out for us what it looks like to be a fool in regards to how we value money and possessions. May we not follow his path and heed Christ’s warning by his grace.

Living for Jesus without fear

Christ tells us to FEAR NOT. The world is increasingly hostile towards Christians. We live in a world where Biblical truth is not only marginalized but also mocked. Though there may be severe consequences for being a Christian in our society, we do not need to shrink back. When we face opposition we can have faith instead of fear. Knowing who God is guards us against fear.(v4-5). Knowing our identity in Christ guards us against fear (v8-10). Knowing we have a helper in the Holy Spirit guards us against fear (v11-12). Jesus said in John 16:33b “…In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”

Let us live for Jesus without fear.

God is a God of new beginnings and a God of unrivaled commitment. We see this pattern throughout scripture but clearly highlighted her in Genesis 8 & 9. The Genesis account of the flood is intended to encourage God’s people today with the message that though God judges wickedness, he will save a remnant to continue his good kingdom on earth. God saves a remnant from the flood by His Grace alone. God establishes a covenant with Noah out of his merciful and gracious character.

judgment. The familiar story of Noah’s ark shows us deep profound truths. In Genesis 6-7 we are given examples of righteousness, salvation, and judgment. We continue to see God’s faithfulness in fulfilling his promise to mankind. Though God does not tolerate sin, he graciously provides a way of escape. Ultimately this account points us to Jesus Christ who provided a way for us to make it through the flood of God’s judgement by dying on the cross for sin if we would repent and believe in Him we will be saved.

God's Way or Cain's Way

Genesis 4 is a story about MAN’S FAILURE and GOD’S FAITHFULNESS. It’s a story about DEPRAVITY and GRACE. The way of Cain leads to sin and death. Though we are tempted to sin (James 1:14-15), God in his mercy always provides a way of escape (1 Corinthians 10:13). Though there are consequences for our sin, God still mercifully pours out his grace. Christ’s perfect life is magnified in light of man’s failure and His blood covers all our sin (Hebrews 11:4).

Genesis 3 shows us God is both just and merciful. Adam and Eve committed the original sin of rejecting what God said was good and believed the lies of the enemy. All of humanity now feels the effects of sin. Even in the midst of Adam and Eve’s sin, God shows his mercy by providing for Adam and Eve and giving a glimmer of hope of Christ who is to come to defeat Satan and redeem those who place their faith in Him.

Genesis 2:3-25 shows us that God is the giver of life. He is the giver of our identity, including our gender. God is also the creator of Marriage. All created good and for his glory. Genesis is a book about God more than anything else.

Genesis shows us the beginning of foundational doctrines of the faith.

Genesis gives us the doctrine of God, the doctrine of creation, the doctrine of man, and the doctrine of salvation. Genesis affirms our awful sinfulness. Genesis shows us God’s faithfulness to a people who continue to show their faithlessness and rebellion.Genesis is about grace.

History has a beginning. Creation has a creator. Creation’s creator is the One True God who is eternal.

James closes his letter with an exhortation to love our brothers and sisters in Christ by lovingly pursuing them if they start to wander from the truth of God’s word. Confronting sin is never easy, yet God desires that we all be holy as he is holy. We all can be tempted to stray. God has given us the gift of each other to help one another to grow and to correct one another when we have wandered from the Truth. The goal is rescue that we would remove all from our life that distracts us from greater intimacy with Jesus.

James gives us 3 clear images to help us endure patiently. Remain steadfast.

He also warns us to Beware of Hoarding (v2-3), Beware of Fraud (v4), and to Beware of Self-Indulgence (v5). Lastly the text has imagery that points us to the one who never allowed riches to corrupt him, the righteous one, Jesus Christ.

Taming the Tongue

The power of speech is one of the greatest powers God has given us. Solomon said Proverbs 18:21a “Death and life are in the power of the tongue,”

With our tongues we can praise God, pray, proclaim God’s word and reach the lost. But with the same tongue we can cut people down, break people’s hearts, tell half-truths or event outright lies. As we study James 3:1-12 we see the tongue has the power to direct, the power to destroy, and the power to delight. When Jesus Christ is Lord of your heart, he will be Lord of your lips too.
