2026: Rethinking Athletics #3

 <itunes:subtitle>God's Purpose For Athletics</itunes:subtitle>
 <itunes:author></itunes:author>
 <itunes:summary>
In this episode of the “Rethinking Athletics” series, we begin asking a foundational question: What was athletics actually designed to be?

Modern sports culture often treats athletics as a pathway to identity, status, recognition and personal value. But according to Scripture, athletics was never meant to sit at the center of life or carry the emotional and spiritual weight that today’s culture places upon it. Instead, sports should function underneath the Lordship of Christ as a tool for stewardship, discipline, perseverance and character development.

In this episode, we discuss:

-The biblical purpose of work and stewardship

-Athletics as a training ground for life and vocation

-How sports reveal character under pressure

-The dangers of identity being tied to performance

-Emotional instability within modern youth athletics

-The role of failure, discipline and perseverance

-And how Christian families can think biblically about competition and development

Athletics can be a tremendous gift from God, but when sports become ultimate, disorder inevitably follows. This episode challenges parents, coaches and athletes to rethink sports from the perspective of Scripture and to ask not merely, “Is my child improving?” but rather, “What is this system forming my child into?”
</itunes:summary>

 <itunes:subtitle>John 3:16</itunes:subtitle>
 <itunes:author></itunes:author>
 <itunes:summary>
In this episode of the Ambassadors Baseball podcast, we walk through John 3:16 and rediscover the depth and power of one of the most well-known verses in all of Scripture.

In the context of Jesus’ conversation with Nicodemus, we see that this verse is not shallow or sentimental—it is the very heart of the gospel. We discuss the holiness of God, the meaning of His love, the purpose of Christ being sent into the world, and what it truly means to believe in Him. This episode emphasizes that salvation is not earned through religion, morality, or effort, but is a gift of grace received through faith in Jesus Christ alone.

Players and parents are challenged to move beyond cultural Christianity and consider whether they have truly trusted in Christ for eternal life. This is the crescendo of the season and a powerful reminder of the glory of the gospel.
</itunes:summary>

 <itunes:summary>
Biblical Distinctive #6: Team Before Self

In this episode of the Ambassadors Baseball podcast, we explore the biblical distinctive of Team Before Self.

In a sports culture that constantly promotes personal recognition, stats, and self-promotion, Scripture calls believers to humility, sacrifice, and unity. Drawing from Philippians 2 and the example of Christ Himself, this episode challenges players and parents to reject selfish ambition and pursue a team-first mentality that reflects the gospel. We discuss how pride and self-centeredness can damage both teams and relationships, while humility strengthens culture, leadership, and trust. Players are encouraged to serve teammates, accept roles, celebrate others, and compete with selflessness, while parents are challenged to cultivate humility rather than performance-driven selfishness.

Our goal in Ambassadors Baseball is not just to build talented athletes, but young men who reflect Christ in the way they love, serve, and value others above themselves.
</itunes:summary>

 <itunes:author></itunes:author>
 <itunes:summary>
In this episode of the “Rethinking Athletics” series, we examine one of the clearest evidences that youth sports has become disordered in many Christian homes: the relationship between athletics, worship and the local church.

This episode is not about legalism or creating man-made rules. Instead, it addresses a much deeper issue — worship, priority and what ultimately sits at the center of family life. As modern sports culture increasingly demands more time, energy, emotional investment and devotion, many families are slowly discovering that athletics has begun shaping the entire structure of their lives.

Through biblical reflection and pastoral application, this episode explores:

-The importance of the local church

-How children learn priorities through observation

-The dangers of allowing sports to become central

-The exhausting demands of modern youth athletics

-And how Christian families can begin thinking biblically about order, worship and stewardship

Athletics can be a wonderful gift from God, but it becomes dangerous when it is elevated beyond its proper place. This episode challenges families to honestly evaluate what youth sports culture is producing and calls listeners to place athletics underneath the Lordship of Christ instead of allowing it to compete against Him.
</itunes:summary>

 <itunes:subtitle>John 3:12-15</itunes:subtitle>
 <itunes:author></itunes:author>
 <itunes:summary>
In this episode of the Ambassadors Baseball Show, we walk through John 3:12–15 and the turning point in Jesus’ conversation with Nicodemus.

Jesus moves from explaining the necessity of the new birth to revealing Himself as the only Savior who can give eternal life. Drawing from the story of Moses lifting up the bronze serpent in the wilderness, Jesus points forward to His own crucifixion and teaches that sinners must look to Him in faith to be saved.

This episode emphasizes the exclusivity of Christ, the reality of sin and judgment, and the necessity of genuine belief—not merely religious knowledge or outward morality.

Players and parents are challenged to consider what they are truly trusting in: themselves, their performance, or Christ alone. The gospel is not about self-improvement, but rescue through the Son of Man who was lifted up for sinners.
</itunes:summary>

True growth—both spiritually and athletically—requires humility, teachability, and a willingness to receive correction. Players are challenged to examine how they respond when flaws are exposed, while parents are encouraged to help cultivate humility rather than defensiveness in their children.

This episode reminds us that correction is not the enemy; it is often one of God’s greatest tools for growth. Ultimately, the gospel itself requires humility, because no one comes to Christ while clinging to pride.

Our prayer is that players and families would become more teachable, more grounded in truth, and more willing to receive instruction for the glory of God.
</itunes:summary>

2026: Rethinking Athletics #1

 <itunes:subtitle>What Is Youth Sports Producing?</itunes:subtitle>
 <itunes:author></itunes:author>
 <itunes:summary>
In this bonus episode of the Ambassadors Baseball Show, we begin a new series titled “Rethinking Athletics.” Over the past several years, it has become increasingly clear that youth sports is shaping far more than athletic ability. Modern sports culture is discipling families, shaping priorities, consuming schedules and slowly redefining what matters most.

This episode asks an important question: What is the current system of athletics actually producing in the lives of our children and families?

As families become overwhelmed by pressure, exhaustion and constant demands, many are beginning to realize that something feels deeply out of order. Athletics can be a tremendous gift from God, but when sports become central instead of rightly ordered underneath a biblical worldview, disorder inevitably follows.

In this episode, we begin thinking carefully about how athletics, discipleship, family life and the worship of God all connect together. This is not a call to abandon sports, but a call to rethink them through the lens of Scripture and the Glory of God.
</itunes:summary>

 <itunes:subtitle>John 3:9-11</itunes:subtitle>
 <itunes:author></itunes:author>
 <itunes:summary>
In this episode of the Ambassadors Baseball podcast, we walk through John 3:9–11 and examine the danger of hearing truth without truly receiving it. Nicodemus was the teacher of Israel—religious, knowledgeable, and respected—yet Jesus confronts him for still not understanding the necessity of the new birth.

This episode challenges players and parents to consider the difference between simply being around Christianity and genuinely knowing Christ. Information alone cannot save; only the regenerating work of God can bring spiritual life. We discuss how exposure to truth increases accountability and how unbelief is ultimately a heart issue, not merely an intellectual one.

Our prayer is that this passage moves listeners beyond outward religion and into genuine faith in Christ, where truth is not only heard, but truly received.
</itunes:summary>

This episode challenges players and parents to rethink discipline, not as a way to build identity or prove worth, but as a tool God uses to shape character. Drawing from Scripture, we highlight the difference between performance-driven discipline and Spirit-produced self-control. True discipline flows from a changed heart and is rooted in obedience to Christ, not pressure or pride. Parents are encouraged to model and guide discipline in a way that shepherds the heart, not just behavior.

Our goal is to develop disciplined athletes who are first and foremost disciples—young men whose lives are shaped by Christ both on and off the field.
</itunes:summary>

 <itunes:subtitle>John 3:7-8</itunes:subtitle>
 <itunes:author></itunes:author>
 <itunes:summary>
In this episode of the Ambassadors Baseball podcast, we examine John 3:7–8 and the powerful truth of the new birth. Jesus makes it clear that being born again is not optional—it is necessary for salvation. He also teaches that this new life is not something we can produce ourselves, but a sovereign work of the Holy Spirit. Like the wind, the Spirit moves according to God’s will, bringing life where there was once spiritual death. This episode challenges players and parents to think beyond external religion, effort, and behavior, and to consider the deeper reality of true transformation. Salvation is not a human achievement but a divine work of grace. Our prayer is that this truth brings clarity, humility, and a deeper dependence on God as we trust Him to do what only He can do—give new life.
</itunes:summary>

 <itunes:subtitle>John 3:6</itunes:subtitle>
 <itunes:author></itunes:author>
 <itunes:summary>
In this episode of the Ambassadors Baseball podcast, we walk through John 3:6 and Jesus’ clear distinction between the flesh and the Spirit. This passage teaches that spiritual life cannot be produced through human effort, discipline, or outward behavior—what is born of the flesh remains flesh. True transformation only comes through the regenerating work of the Holy Spirit. Players and parents are challenged to think beyond surface-level change and consider the deeper question: what is producing our lives? While effort and discipline matter, they cannot create new life. Only God can take a spiritually dead heart and make it alive. This episode calls listeners to examine the difference between external improvement and internal transformation, reminding us that lasting change begins with being born again.
</itunes:summary>

 <itunes:summary>
Biblical Distinctive #5: Identity in Christ

In this episode of the Ambassadors Baseball podcast, we address a critical issue in today’s sports culture: identity.

Athletics often teaches young players that their worth is tied to performance, position, and results—but what happens when sports ends? This episode challenges both players and parents to think long-term and recognize the danger of building identity on something temporary. Drawing from Scripture, we explain that true identity is not achieved through performance but received through Christ. When identity is rooted in Him, athletes are freed to compete with confidence, humility, and stability—without fear of failure or pressure to prove themselves. Parents are encouraged to consider how their words and reactions shape identity at home.

Our goal is to help young athletes build their lives on something that will last far beyond the game: identity in Christ alone.
</itunes:summary>

 <itunes:author></itunes:author>
 <itunes:summary>
In this episode of the Ambassadors Baseball podcast, we walk through John 3:5 and Jesus’ teaching on the necessity of being “born of water and the Spirit.” This passage reminds us that salvation is not about external religion or behavior, but an internal transformation that only God can accomplish. We discuss how “water” points to the cleansing of sin and the “Spirit” points to new life given by God.

Drawing from the broader teaching of Scripture, this episode emphasizes that we are not just in need of improvement—we are spiritually dead apart from Christ and must be made alive. Players and parents are challenged to think beyond outward performance and consider the condition of the heart. True change comes not from effort alone, but from the regenerating work of the Holy Spirit. Our prayer is that this truth leads to clarity, humility, and a deeper dependence on Christ.

okcambassadors.org/give
</itunes:summary>

Drawing from Ephesians 2, we walk through how salvation is a gift, not a result of works, and how that truth reshapes the way players compete, respond to failure, and handle success. This episode challenges both players and parents to separate effort from identity, pursue excellence without pride, and rest in the finished work of Christ.

The goal is not to lower standards, but to build a foundation strong enough to sustain both success and failure.
</itunes:summary>

 <itunes:summary>
In this week’s Ambassadors Baseball podcast, we walk through John 3:4 and Nicodemus’ confused response to Jesus’ teaching on the new birth. Though Nicodemus was religious, respected, and knowledgeable, he could not understand spiritual truth apart from the work of God. This episode reminds players and parents that spiritual blindness is deeper than a lack of information—it is a heart issue. We talk about the difference between honest questions and prideful resistance, why people ask the wrong questions, and why new birth is something only God can accomplish. Confusion before Christ can become the path to true clarity and life.
</itunes:summary>

Ambassadors Baseball is not just about developing athletes—it is about representing Christ and sharing the gospel in the world of athletics. Evangelism naturally flows out of discipleship. As God works in us through His Word, He also works through us to bring the message of Christ to others. The Bible says in 2 Corinthians 5:20 that believers are “ambassadors for Christ,” meaning we represent Him and carry His message to the world.

In this episode we explain the gospel using the colors of our uniform that help players and families understand and share the good news: Gold represents the holiness of God, Black represents our sin, Red represents the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross, and White represents the forgiveness and new life that come through faith in Him. Our prayer is that every player learns to live and speak as a true ambassador for Christ.
</itunes:summary>

If our players are not devoted to their own spiritual growth, then they will not be motivated to take the one true Gospel of Jesus Christ to the world of baseball. In all that we do in our Discipleship, one of the most important aspects is the fact that we train our players to share the Gospel. We do this through the presentation of the Gospel in Scripture by using the colors of our uniform.

You can support the OKC Ambassadors ministry by going to: okcambassadors.org/give
</itunes:summary>
